Hawai'i observed its 50th year of
statehood on August 21, 2009, and we created special art and music
activities to help you celebrate. We also gathered lots of useful
information about the state, and in case you want to stage a lu'au, we're
featuring some recipes for authentic Hawaiian food.
In addition to the written content, the unit features many color photos of Hawai'i's main points of interest. You'll learn the basics of speaking in the Hawaiian language, and there are some puzzles that can be downloaded and printed for classroom use.
To expand your knowledge of the Aloha State, there are dozens of Hawai'i-related Web sites featured, with a special link to the official celebrations. If you're planning a unit of study with a tropical theme, the information presented here will be relevant long after the birthday party's over!
